A day in the life of Lee Martin, Quality Manager

Lee Martin, Quality Manager

With a long history in various quality roles and having spent the last eight years working for a highly technical and fast paced tier 1 automotive supplier, Lee knows a thing or two about meeting the highest of quality standards. Having joined Rainford Solutions in 2021, he is bringing a people approach to a role that is typically centred around procedures and processes. In motivating the shop floor, he aspires to lead continual improvement and innovation from the ground up, with support from a driven, efficient and effective quality team.

Early bird Lee gets to the office for 7.30am to assess and plan the day ahead before meeting with health and safety officer Andy to run through priorities for the day. After meeting with the heads of production and addressing anything that needs immediate attention on the shop floor, he works on assessing and implementing processes to future guard the business.

Everyone at Rainford plays a role in delivering customer satisfaction and quality is a key component. Lee and his team inspect and ensure that every cabinet and solution that goes to a customer is on specification and delivered on time.

Compliance is also a huge aspect of quality and Lee takes overall responsibility for assuring all standards are upheld. Taking a collaborative approach, a recent audit for recertification to ISO 9001 gave him the chance to pull the whole business together to achieve success.

A proud father, Lee and his young son are both into their sports. They try to go to as many Everton games as possible and have a keen interest in golf, with Lee running a fun competitive golf society in his spare time and boasting a mean handicap to boot! An enthusiastic motorsport fan too, Lee owns a motorbike and travels when he can to follow MOTO GP.

When asked about the best piece of advice he’s ever received, Lee says it’s to make time for lunch: “I was once told by a head of company, if you can’t make time for lunch, you’re not managing your time properly. With such busy and varied days having a proper lunch break gives me time for reflection and to just stop and think. So, I always try to make time for it, even if it’s a little late!”
